Music at Mount Pisgah is worship. In all we do in the Department of Music, our goal is to praise and worship Jesus Christ. A myriad of musical opportunity exists at Mount Pisgah. If you enjoy praising God through instrument or song, you will fit in here!
Mount Pisgah is home to a variety of choirs and instrumental ensembles. The Music Department is currently seeking instrumentalists of all kinds to play in any or all three of our worship services. For more information on how to get involved with any of the groups listed below, contact Karen Springer or call the Church Office at (336) 288-3321.
Cherub Choir (4 and 5 year olds)
What a wonderful and fun introduction to singing in a group ensemble! Cherub Choir students must be 4 years old when the fall school term begins. They are taught a variety of church music and children's praise choruses, the basic elements of rhythm and meter, and how to sing a tone that is appropriate for 4 and 5 year olds.
The Cherub Choir sings during the Traditional worship service at least two times a year, as well as performs in our Children's Musicals in December and May. The Cherub Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. Director: Dennis Nealy.
Celebration Choir (1st-5th grades)
Celebration Choir students must be in the 1st grade when the fall term begins. They are taught a variety of church music along with basic music theory. They also learn about how music affects worship and how music of the church is reflected in their daily lives.
The Celebration Choir learns and performs in a Children's Musical at Christmas and in May. These musicals almost always have dramatic parts to be learned, and the children are taught how to project their speaking voices. The Celebration Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. Director: Dennis Nealy.
The MOUNT Praise Team and Band
The vocalists and musicians in this ensemble lead worship at our newest service, The MOUNT, on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. This group loves adapting popular songs and music from current Christian artists. They are always searching for talented guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboard players, and vocalists who have a heart for leading worship. The MOUNT Praise Team rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Worship Leader: Diane Carter.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir sings in the 11:00 a.m. service each Sunday. The choir learns a variety of music including music of the early church, as well as more contemporary sounds of worship. Special music is prepared for Lent, Easter and Christmas, which sometimes requires extra rehearsals beyond the regular weekly practice time. Open to singers high school age and older. The Chancel Choir rehearses on in the Choir Room on Thursday nights from 7:15-8:45 p.m. and also on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Director: Karen Lecky-Springer.
The Early Singers
The Early Singers sing in the 8:30 a.m. worship service each Sunday. The Early Singers also learn a variety of music spanning many centuries and typically joins forces with the Chancel Choir for special musical events around Lent, Easter and Christmas. Open to singers high school age and older. This choir does not meet regularly during the week, but rehearses an easy anthem from 8:00-8:25 a.m. in the Choir Room each Sunday morning for the upcoming service. Director: Karen Lecky-Springer.
Men's Choir
On the 4th Sunday of the month, the Men's choir leads our 8:30 a.m. worship service. All men are invited to sing in the Men's Choir. This group sings mostly gospel music and traditional hymns in two- and three-part harmonies. Open to singers high school age and older. The Men's Choir rehearses from 7:55-8:25 a.m. in the Choir Room every 4th Sunday of the month. Director: Karen Lecky-Springer.
Camp Meeting Choir
During the months of July and August, our worship services reflect the early years of United Methodism under the brush arbors of the Southern camp meetings. Our folks dress more informally and the music sung by the congregation and choir is simple and robust. This is a good time to join the choir if you cannot make a permanent commitment to the regular Chancel Choir! Open to singers high school age and older. The Chancel Choir does not meet on Thursday night during this time; instead, rehearsals begin at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Choir Room. Director: Karen Lecky-Springer.
Voices of Bronze (Handbell Choir)
Voices of Bronze is the handbell choir, which plays both at the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services approximately four times a year. This group also performs in other special musical events throughout the year and will sometimes accompany the Chancel Choir on Sunday mornings. Voices of Bronze rehearse on Thursday nights from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Seekers Classroom. Rehearsals begin the last week in August and end in May. Director: Karen Lecky-Springer.
