But Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.' ~ Luke 18:16
Children are the future of the church and they are certainly a priority at Mount Pisgah. We offer many different programs and events for all ages of children, so that they can grow in their relationship with God at their own level. These events are announced in The Stem Winder, the monthly church newsletter.
For additional information on any of the programs listed below, contact Vaughan Long, Director of Children's Ministries, at (336) 288-3321.
Worship
Children's Church is offered for ages five through fifth grade during the 11:00 a.m. worship service on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. We use the Kids Own Worship curriculum to experience worship on a child's level and to study Bible stories using hands-on activities, songs, skits and puppet shows.
Worship Bags for the children are available at the front and side entrances every Sunday. These bags include items such as children's worship bulletins, activity sheets, crayons, pencil, pipe cleaner, and Doodle Pro. We want the children to enjoy the items and return the bags to the entrances after the services.
Sunday School
Sunday School classes are offered for preschool age children through the fifth grade. The Sunday School hour is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., between the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services. Students learn more about God's Word through age-appropriate Bible stories and activities each week. These stories help students learn the Bible and apply Biblical principles to their lives.
All preschool classes meet on the first floor at the opposite end of the building from the Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary. Kindergarten through fifth grade classes meet upstairs. Please see an usher, greeter, or any other helpful person you find in the hallways to show you and your children where to find their classrooms.
Nursery
A nursery is also available during the Sunday School hour (for newborns through age 2) and during the 8:30, 11:00 and 11:15 worship services (for newborns through age 4 years). Our nursery workers, both paid and volunteer caregivers, take great care in making sure our infants, toddlers, and preschool children are happy and safe in the nursery each Sunday morning. In addition to Sunday morning care, child care is offered for church-wide events.
The Weekday School
The Weekday School is a half-day preschool offering classes for ages 10 months through Pre-Kindergarten. The program is structured to meet the developmental, physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of children at these ages.
Children's Choirs
Rehearsals for children's choirs take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Choir Room. The Cherub Choir is for ages four, five, and Kindergarteners, and the Celebration Choir is for first through fifth grades.
United Methodist Kids
UMK is a fellowship program for children in third, fourth and fifth grades. The goal for the group is to get to know one another better, since the children attend several different elementary schools. The group usually meets the last Saturday or Sunday of each month for a variety of activities.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is offered one week each summer for children three years through fifth grade. Each summer features a different curriculum and theme, where children learn through music, storytelling, puppets, skits, arts and crafts, and games.
Early Elementary Day Camp
Rising first, second, and third graders enjoy being outdoors and learning all about God's wonderful creation at Camp Guilrock, the Methodist District Camp. Day Camp is traditionally held each July.
Summer Fun Days
Group field trips for children of different age groups.
Other Programs and Events
Lent Events, the Easter Egg Hunt, Pentecost Celebration, Fall Festival, Bible Fair, Advent Festival, and the Birthday Party for Jesus are some of the other seasonal events that take place for children throughout the year.
